Tikona Fort Trek and Some Relax Time at Pawana Lake
Nizamshahi sardar Malik won the fort in 1585 which was included it in Adilshahi province. Shivaji Maharaj in 1657 with other forts which are Mahuli, Lohgad, Visapur, Songad, Tala and Karnala were included in Swarajya. This fort is also known as Vitangad.
How to reach:
Tikona fort is 55 Km from Pune. Tikona peth is a base village for this trek. Route to reach at Tikona Peth is Pune-->Kamshet(old highway)-->Take Left from Kamshet hospital towards Pawananagar village-->Kale Village-->Tikona Peth. Paid parking facility is available at base of fort.

Difficulty level Easy.
Height Tikona is 3500 ft (1066 mtrs) above sea level.
Base village / District / Taluka Tikonapeth / Pune / Maval, Maharashtra, India.
We were planning for this trek from long time. After long group discussions, we finally decided to go on 10th Dec 2016. It was saturday so to avoid traffic we planned to go for trek in evening. We gathered at Wakad chowk and started our Bike journey on 10th Dec 2016 at around 02:00 PM from Wakad. We stopped near Kamshet to have snacks. After snacks, we have driving towards Pawannagar. After crossing Kale Village, you will see beautiful view of Pawana Dam on right side and mountains on left side. We reached base village "Tikona Peth" at around 03:50 PM. We parked our bikes and started trek at around 04:00 PM.

You will see fort information board at starting point of trek. Initial trek of 10-15 mins is simple ascend but this trail gets slippery during rainy season so extra care should be needed during rainy season. You will see beautiful view of Lake and surrounding mountains from this point.

After ascending for few mins, we took break of 5 mins. we were able to see top of fort from here. We have then started ascending towards top of fort. Narrow trail with expose of valley on both side will start after few mins of ascend. This trail is not that risky but beginner trekker should be careful specially during windy and rainy season.

After ascending narrow trail, you will see small rock patch once you cross that you will reach at entrance of small gate. After few mins of walk from gate, you will reach near to Lord Hanuman temple.

After walking for few mins, you will reach near to Tuljadevi temple. There is a big water tank in front of this temple. There is small trail near to tank that will lead you to temple. You will see big open space in front of water tank which is used for camping and cooking food during overnight stay.

We went to see temple and spent few mins at water tank. There is enough space for people to sit at camping site. We have then started ascending towards entrance of fort. There are broken rock stairs on this trail and that leads you near to "Chunyacha Ghana"

Once you enter fort gate and ascend few steps, You will see caves and water tanks on the right side. We relaxed in caves for few mins and started ascending towards top of fort. you will see Shiva temple and cave after few mins of walk.
We have finally reached top of fort(Bale-killa) at around 05:10 Pm. Standing on the top, you will get a spectacular 360 degree view of surrounding area. You can see Pawana Lake and Tung fort from top of fort. It will take around 20-30 mins to explore top of fort. There is a big water tank on left side of the fort.
After spending few mins on top of fort, we have then quickly started descending fort. We reached at bike parking within 35 mins. Our next plan was to relax at Pawana lake before returning to Pune.

We reached base village at around 05:50 PM. We then started driving towards Pawana Lake. We reached Pawana lake within 15 mins of drive. We have spent an hour near lake. It was amazing trekking and relaxing day.

We have started our return journey towards Pune at 06:45 PM and reached Pune at around 08:30 PM.
Best Time to Visit Tikona Fort:
Monsoon from June to September is of course the best time to visit Tikona Fort, when the hill covers with greenery and the cool air rejuvenates you throughout the trek but you can enjoy easy trek of Tikona fort throughout year.
